TB ALERT
TB kills 1.5 million people around the world each year – it kills 200 children a day and orphans 9.7 million a year. Tuberculosis commonly affects those living in poverty or with poor immune systems and is the largest killer of people with HIV. Yet TB is curable. Lack of awareness, poor access to treatment and stigma are major contributing factors to people dying needlessly from tuberculosis.
TB Alert is the only charity that focuses on TB both in the UK and overseas – in India, Zambia, Zimbabwe and Malawi. We work with local non-governmental organisations to raise awareness of the disease amongst communities and medical professionals; provide information on how and where to get tested and receive their life-saving treatment; and advocate for better resources and policy to improve patient care, and to prevent and control TB. Our mission is to increase access to effective treatment for all and our vision is the control and ultimate elimination of TB.
