Cambridge University Museum of Zoology
The museum houses an extensive collection of scientifically important zoological material designated as being of outstanding national and international significance by the Museums, Libraries and Archives Council (formerly Re:source).
As part of the Department of Zoology we are also home to a thriving research community.
Overall, the Museum of Zoology receives around 70,000 visitors each year. These visitors include many people from the general public, school parties, visiting researchers and academics.
Special events are held throughout the year, such as National Science Week, which attracts over 3,000 visitors in a single week.
The Museum runs courses on subjects such as insect taxonomy, and has a varied programme of temporary exhibitions which take place throughout the year.
The Museum is visited by around 160 school parties a year, with ages ranging from primary upwards. The collections are used as a teaching resource by local schools and as an educational attraction by visiting international students.
Academic visitors to the Museum come from all over the world to use the collections and archives. These visitors are not all professional scientists – artists study specimens for their work, conservation students learn from our work and some people identify specimens found on their travels or on their back doorstep.
