Listening Books

Listening Books provides a postal and internet based audiobook service to over 50,000 members who find it difficult to read the printed word in the usual way.

Our service is quick and easy to use and it will open up the wonderful world of books to people who find it difficult to read in the usual way. We support the National Curriculum from Key Stage 2 to A-Level and have a huge range of fiction and non-fiction titles for both adults and children. Listening to audiobooks allows children and young people to listen to the same books their friends and peers are reading, improve comprehension and word recognition as well as helping to instill a greater understanding and enjoyment of literature. For older members, audiobooks, as well as being an enjoyable activity, can for some provide welcome relief from pain, boredom and loneliness, lifting them out of what are often challenging circumstances.

We are very fortunate to enjoy the support of Stephen Fry as our patron.

“I’m proud and delighted to be patron of the first audiobook charity to offer downloads to its members and excited about what this will mean for all print impaired people who can now listen on-the-go.”

Stephen has been patron of Listening Books since 2005. As a creator and huge lover of literature, and reader of the best selling ‘Harry Potter’ audiobook series, he understands the importance of promoting the spoken word for all.
