Welcome to Mates in Mind
Established in 2016 by the Health in Construction Leadership Group (HCLG), the Mates in Mind registered charity exists to improve the mental health and wellbeing of workplaces across the UK. Working in construction brings with it a 4x higher chance of developing mental health challenges including work-related stress when compared to other sectors. Unfortunately when not proactively addressed, this results in 2 construction workers taking their own lives every day in the UK. We need to do more across the industry to stop people feeling that this is their only choice when faced with mental health challenges.
At Mates in Mind, we do this by providing the skills, clarity and confidence to employers with a particular focus on line managers on how to raise awareness; start conversations where there are early signs of mental health starting to be impacted; improve understanding and address the stigma of mental ill-health within the workplace. Working together with teams throughout the organisation, collaboratively we create both a positive culture and attitude towards mental health through proactive steps where the emphasis is on prevention rather than crisis management. We can also support employers as part of their legal responsibility to both assess and more importantly, act upon work-related stress faced their teams.
We believe that there is no health, without mental health.
As a charity. Mates in Mind provides clear information to employers about the available support and guidance on mental health and wellbeing, and how they can address this within their organisations across construction and related industries, transport and logistics. We also commission research to ensure that our model remains evidence based and responds to the needs of those who need us most.
Your donation will allow us to reach more people and continue our charitable work. We have an ambitious plan to do this in 2022, and donations such as yours along with any money raised through fundraising events results in us being able to introduce these initiatives and work with more of our supporters to raise awareness, breakdown barriers, reduce stigma and create workplaces where mental health is openly discussed and where teams thrive.
